Bill Splitter: Split Fairly Without Awkwardness
Splitting a bill at restaurants, on trips, or at shared events can cause tension among friends if not managed smartly. Our bill splitter ends the debate and saves time.
Bill Splitting Methods
Equal Split The simplest method: total bill รท number of people. Suitable when everyone eats similar quantities and price levels.
Item-Based Split Each person pays for exactly what they ordered. More accurate but slower. Suitable when individual spending varies significantly (e.g., one person had juice while another ordered steak).
Proportional Split May reflect income differences. Higher earners pay a larger share. Rarely applied but exists in some friendships.
In Egypt and the Arab world, one person paying the full bill and then distributing the cost to others is socially common, especially at friend and family gatherings.
Adding the Tip
In Egypt, restaurant tipping is a social convention, not mandatory. The standard is 10โ15% of the bill. In upscale hotels and fine dining restaurants, 15โ20% is customary.
Our calculator adds your chosen tip then divides the total among the group.
Special Cases
- **Person who does not drink alcohol:** Excluded from alcoholic beverage costs in item-based splitting
- **Person who does not eat meat:** Only charged for what they ordered
- **Person who wants to cover a friend:** Can be added as an extra user on their account
Use our calculator to enter all orders, assign them to each person, then calculate what each person owes precisely including tip.
